What is the Kashmir issue?

What is the Kashmir issue?

Why did the Kashmir issue continue to escalate?
Why does the Kashmir problem never get resolved?
Why has Pakistan failed to unite the international community to solve this issue?
Why has the United Nations not shown effectiveness?
Why have the Kashmiri people not received the right to self‑determination?
Why does the global community remain silent about India’s expansionist policies?
All these questions are being analyzed.

note:  What is the Kashmir issue?

1. A dispute that began after the Partition

  • When India and Pakistan were partitioned in 1947, Jammu and Kashmir was a princely state.
  • After the ruler, Maharaja Hari Singh, signed the Instrument of Accession with India, India considered Kashmir to be its territory.
  • Pakistan rejected this decision, and a war broke out between the two countries.

2. The role of the United Nations

  • To stop the war, the United Nations proposed a plebiscite—allowing the Kashmiri people to decide their own future.
  • But the plebiscite never took place, and the dispute became increasingly complex.
  • India‑administered Jammu and Kashmir

4. Political and legal disputes

  • India claims Kashmir as an integral part of its territory.
  • Pakistan considers Kashmir a disputed region and demands a plebiscite.
  • A significant portion of the Kashmiri population seeks self‑determination or independence.

5. Human rights and security issues

  • Both sides face allegations of military presence, violence, repression, terrorism, and human rights violations.
  • The Kashmiri people have endured insecurity, displacement, and lack of political rights for decades.

6. India’s actions after 2019

  • India revoked Articles 370 and 35A of its constitution, ending Jammu and Kashmir’s special status.
  • This move intensified international attention on the dispute.
