The International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD) has been awarded the Asia Geospatial Leadership Award for Sustainable Community Development in acknowledgement of its long-standing contributions to promoting and using geospatial technologies in the Hindu Kush Himalaya. YB Datuk Ir Haji Hamim Samuri, the Malaysian Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environment, presented the award at a special event during the GeoSmart Asia 2017 conference on 23 August 2017. The Asia Geospatial Leadership Awards recognizes and celebrates inspiring leaders from the geospatial industry in the Asia-Pacific region.

GeoSmart Asia brings together representatives from the geospatial industry and policy makers and practitioners from the Asia-Pacific region and around the world. It has been recognizing outstanding organizations and individuals for their contributions for over a decade.

Basanta Shrestha, Director of Strategic Cooperation, ICIMOD received the award on behalf of the organization and thanked Geospatial Media and Communications for the honour and recognition. He dedicated the award to mountains and the people of the Hindu Kush Himalayan region. He said ICIMOD is dedicated to continue working towards using geospatial technology and applications innovatively for the benefit of mountain communities.
