Nepal is a country often referred to as the ‘roof of the world’, with eight out of fourteen mountain peaks within its borders that are more than 8,000 meters high over sea level such as Everest, Annapurna, Dhaulagiri, and Manaslu. It is also the birthplace of Buddha, attracting tourists, pilgrims and mountaineers from all over the world. 
Since establishing diplomatic relations in 1974, Korea and Nepal have developed close friendship and cooperation across many areas. In 2014, the two countries celebrated the 40th anniversary of diplomatic relations, and with increasing exchanges of high-level official visits, the close ties between the two countries is becoming even closer. In the area of developmental assistance, the government of Korea has designated Nepal as a priority partner country and extended support on various development projects over the years. 
Nepal is a popular destination for Koreans, with approximately 30,000 visitors annually. Since the introduction of the Employment Permit System in 2007, over 30,000 Nepali workers have contributed to many sectors in Korea. Korean Overseas Volunteers dispatched to Nepal are working in agriculture, education, health, technology, and other fields to provide direct support. Korean industries are working successfully on various infrastructure projects such as hydropower plants. 
Our embassy is working to further develop the relations between Korea and Nepal, so that the full potential of cooperation can be realized. We are also working to support our investors and businesses, and to provide high-quality consular service to Korean residents and visitors to Nepal.
