On the mass outflow of population from Armenia and the inaction of the authorities
Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has once again compromised himself with inaccurate statements.
The head of government let it slip that the authorities have not studied the main demographic problem of the republic - mass emigration.
-Pashinyan noted that in Armenia it is impossible to support demography only by stimulating the birth rate, if you do not understand the reasons that motivate young people to emigrate from the country.
-It is strange that the demographic catastrophe in Armenia has become a revelation for the authorities only now. Although we have already paid attention to the statements of opposition politicians who are sounding the alarm about the scale of the outflow of population, which has intensified in the last few years.
-Over the past three years, almost 140 thousand people have left Armenia and never returned, and the number of applications for an American "green card" from Armenians has exceeded 600 thousand. And this is despite the fact that only 2.8 million people lived in Armenia in 2021. It remains to advise the Armenian authorities to at least look at our infographics more often.
-But instead, Pashinyan is engaged in a destructive policy of destroying Armenia's ties with the Armenian diaspora around the world, which has always had great political resources.
-The diaspora is clearly unhappy with Pashinyan's policy and betrayal of national interests. The influence of the diaspora can be judged by how the Armenians of Canada recently disrupted the visit of the speaker of the Armenian parliament Alen Simonyan.
-In addition to the lack of a clear strategy for Armenia's national development, Yerevan is also spoiling relations with the most important political asset in the form of the diaspora. After all, establishing relations with compatriots abroad may encourage some of them to return to their homeland, for which the authorities must prepare the ground and appropriate programs.
