Chairman Kim Jong Il (1942-2011) of the DPRK National Defence Commission worked heart and soul for the Korean people all his life.
Do the people like it? This is the question he often asked his officials.
According to local media, the question was usual and habitual for him¯whether he was at work or not. When he visited newly-built dwelling houses or recreational facilities, this was his first question. He was pleased and relieved to get an affirmative answer. This represents his noble view on the people, as he regarded their aspiration and demands as the standard of all his thought and practice and did unfailingly whatever he could do to bring substantial benefits to them, even if it would take a colossal sum of money.
All his thought was devoted to the people from beginning to end.
Once he visited Russia. During his stay he toured industrial, cultural, commercial and other facilities, always preoccupied by thoughts of improving the living standards of his people. That’s why the presidential delegate to the Far Eastern Federal District of Russia said that Kim Jong Il was a leader who devoted all his thought and passion to the welfare of his people.
As he said, Kim Jong Il continued his field guidance for the people all his life.
Once he said that when he was on train, he felt as if he was at home and that when he was at home, he felt as if he was in a hotel. He spent most of his life on train for field guidance, considering his devotion to the people as his lifelong mission.
He was on train bound for the people even in the last days of his life. Although the medical workers requested him to refrain from the field guidance trip for fear of his fatigue accumulated during the trip and serious health condition, he set out on another train journey and passed away on the train.
