Russia Day in Kathmandu

On June 24, 2026, the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Nepal hosted an official state reception on the occasion of Russia Day – the national holiday of the Russian Federation. The solemn ceremony was held at the Dusit Princess Hotel in Kathmandu.

The Chief Guest of the evening was Rt. Hon. Mr. Ramsahay Prasad Yadav, Vice-President of Nepal. The event was attended by high-ranking officials, heads of diplomatic missions, representatives of business circles, academia, public figures, media, and Russian compatriots.

In his welcoming speech, His Excellency Mr. Aleksei V. Surovtsev, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to Nepal, highlighted the significance of Russia Day as a symbol of the country's thousand-year statehood, national cohesion, and rich historical and cultural heritage.

The Ambassador specifically emphasized that this year holds special significance for Russia and Nepal, as two countries mark the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations. He stressed that the traditional and time-tested friendship between Russia and Nepal is based on goodwill, mutual respect, and people-to-people contacts. Russia has always valued Nepal's sovereign foreign policy, rooted in non-alignment and the principles of Panchsheel.

The Ambassador expressed Russia's readiness to further strengthen partnership with Nepal across a wide range of areas, including energy, education, tourism, culture, and humanitarian exchanges. He voiced appreciation for Nepal's long-standing diplomatic traditions and its constructive role in regional and global affairs.

The Ambassador reiterated Russia's consistent stance in favor of a multipolar international system based on equal and indivisible security, respect for the civilizational identity of nations, and the sovereign right of each state to choose its own development path.

The Ambassador also presented Russia's vision for constructive engagement through the Greater Eurasian Partnership and the Eurasian Charter of Diversity and Multipolarity in the 21st Century. He noted that these initiatives, along with platforms such as BRICS, the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO), and the Asia Cooperation Dialogue, offer substantial opportunities for cooperation with Asian nations, including Nepal.

The festive atmosphere of the evening was enhanced by a captivating musical performance by artists invited from Russia.
