WASHINGTON, DC – Unprecedented in the history of American travel documents, the State Department announced on April 28 that a special edition U.S. passport featuring a large image of President Donald Trump on the inside cover will be issued this year. The redesign, launched to commemorate the nation’s semiquincentennial, reflects the President’s career-long penchant for naming landmark assets after himself and his well-documented affinity for gold-toned branding.

The new design features the President’s image superimposed over the Declaration of Independence and an American flag, anchored by his signature rendered in distinct gold lettering. While a traditional painting of the Founding Fathers remains on an interior page, the primary focus is the current Commander-in-Chief.

A State Department official confirmed that the special edition will be the default issuance out of the Washington Passport Agency for as long as it is available, though the official noted that “online options or other locations will maintain the existing passport design” for those seeking the standard version.

The White House praised the move as a centerpiece of the national jubilee, stating that the “new patriotic passport design provides yet another great way Americans can join in the spectacular celebrations for America’s 250th birthday.”

In a move that aligns with the President’s historical preference for high-end finishes, a federal commission consisting of Trump-appointed members voted in March to approve a 24-carat commemorative gold coin depicting the President in honor of the 250th anniversary.

The Treasury Department recently confirmed that the President’s signature is being added to U.S. paper currency. This marks the first time in history that a sitting president’s signature will appear on dollar bills, breaking a long-standing tradition where that space was reserved exclusively for the Treasurer and the Secretary of the Treasury.
