In the world history of wars the Korean war (1950-1953) is recorded as a duel between a newborn country and a superpower. Therefore, the war naturally drew global attention.
The US had a history of more than 110 wars, but it made “new records” in the Korean war.
At that time the Korean war was frequently reported by Western media. According to it, the US hurled into the front over two million troops armed with the latest armaments, including one third of its ground force, one fifth of its air force, most of its Pacific Fleet, as well as troops of 15 vassal states, the ROK and the former Japanese army. In addition, it mobilized veteran generals such as MacArthur who claimed to be “Napoleon in the East,” and Ridgway, Clark, Walker and Van Fleet who claimed that they had long war experience. In other words, the US committed so many troops into the narrow area of the Korean peninsula and all its generals who commanded wars on the vast fronts of Europe, Asia, the Pacific and the Atlantic Ocean during the Second World War. This was unprecedented in American history.
In contrast, Korea was liberated from Japan’s military occupation (1905-1945) five years back. The DPRK was one year and nine months old and its army only two years old.
However, the Korean people under the guidance of their leader Kim Il Sung (1912-1994) inflicted an ignominious defeat on the US-led aggressor forces and eventually won a historic victory in the war, while the US renewed records.
During the war, one president, two commanders of the UN Forces and one front commander were ousted or dismissed; one front commander was killed in action; and one president, one commander of the UN Forces and one front commander were recorded in history as defeated generals.
The US had fought many wars till 1951, or for 175 years after it declared its independence but it had no armistice talks with its belligerent countries. Nevertheless, in the Korean war it was the first to propose having armistice talks and had to sign the Armistice Agreement for the first time in its history.
